APEX Front Super Duty Dana 60 Differential Top Cap 1999-2004 (1-Ton Swap)
The Artec Industries APEX Front SD Differential Top Cap is the weld-on cap that puts the driver-side upper control arm mounting point on a 1999-2004 Ford Super Duty Dana 60 front axle. Laser cut from 1/4" steel and CNC bent to match the differential casting, it carries Artec's patent-pending APEX peaked-top shape — more rigid than a flat plate, with far less weld length to lay down. It is a core piece of a high-clearance 1-ton front swap on Jeep JK, JL, and JT builds, where the upper link needs a serious mount on top of the third member.
Features
- Patent-pending APEX peaked-top design outstiffens a flat-top truss cap
- CNC laser cut in-house from 1/4" mild steel
- CNC bent to the 1999-2004 Super Duty diff casting — drops in place ready to weld
- High-clearance mounting point for the driver-side upper control arm brackets
- Compatible with bushing and Johnny Joint upper control arm mounts
- Around 70% less welding than earlier designs, so less warp and a faster install
- Modeled from Dana Corp and OEM 3D data for clearance to surrounding parts
Confirm you have the 1999-2004 Super Duty casting before ordering — the 2005+ housing takes a different Artec cap — and plan to paint the bare steel after welding. It pairs directly with the APEX Front Superduty Swap Kit 1999-2004; building around an older kingpin/balljoint 60, use the 1985-1997 Dana 60 top cap instead. Everything else for the conversion lives in our complete axle sets collection.

APEX Front Super Duty Dana 60 Differential Top Cap 1999-2004 (1-Ton Swap) FAQs
How do I know if my Super Duty 60 needs this cap or the 2005+ version?
This cap is bent to the 1999-2004 Ford Super Duty Dana 60 front casting. The 2005-and-newer Super Duty housing uses a different casting shape, and Artec offers a separate APEX top cap for it — check your axle's donor year before ordering.
What role does this play in a 1-ton front swap?
When a Super Duty 60 goes under a Jeep JK, JL, or JT, the driver-side upper control arm needs a mount on top of the differential. This cap welds to the casting and provides that high-clearance mounting point, and it accepts both bushing-style and Johnny Joint upper control arm hardware.
Is it hard to weld on?
It is more approachable than older flat trusses — the cap is CNC bent to drop onto the casting, and the APEX design needs roughly 70% less welding, which keeps heat warp down. You still need a competent welder for cast-to-plate welds, and the bare steel should be painted after install.
