What size winch do I need for my truck?
A common rule is a rating of about one and a half times the loaded weight of the vehicle. Weigh your truck with gear and pick a winch with margin above that.
Should I choose steel or synthetic winch rope?
Synthetic is lighter and safer if it fails, but it needs protection from abrasion and sun. Steel is tougher and heavier. The fairlead has to match the line type.
Can I mount a winch on a stock bumper?
Only if the bumper is rated and designed for it. Most stock bumpers are not, so you need a winch-ready bumper or a mounting plate for your model.
