Snorkels & Raised Air Intakes
A snorkel moves the intake opening from inside the fender to roof height. Two reasons that matters overlanding: the air up there is dramatically cleaner when you are third in a convoy on a dusty two-track, and your intake is no longer the lowest point in a water crossing.
Wading is about more than the snorkel
A snorkel raises your intake, not your diffs, alternator or ECU. Deep water still demands breather extensions, sealed electrical connections and slow, deliberate driving. Fit a snorkel for dust first and treat water capability as a bonus that needs the rest of the build to back it up.
Sealing matters
A snorkel only helps if every joint from the head to the airbox is airtight. An unsealed connection downstream pulls in the same dirty engine-bay air you were trying to escape.
