Coachbuilder Carrier Bearing Drop Kit | 0"–2" Rear Lift | Fits Toyota Tundra 1999–2006 & Tacoma 2005–2023 | Ekstrom Design
First-generation Tundras and 2005–2023 Tacomas with a two-piece rear driveshaft get the same driveline complaint the newer trucks do: lift the rear even an inch or two and a shudder shows up on takeoff. The shaft's operating angles change at the center carrier bearing, and this Coachbuilder Carrier Bearing Drop Kit — built for 1999–2006 Tundras and 2005–2023 Tacomas running 0”–2” of rear lift — lowers the bearing to put those angles back where they belong. The pair of spacers is CNC machined from T6 6061 billet aluminum, mounting hardware comes in the box, and the whole install is a 10–15 minute job with a single 25 ft-lb torque spec.

It only applies to trucks with a two-piece rear driveshaft — if there's no carrier bearing at the middle of your driveline, there's nothing to drop. Building out the rest of a lifted Tacoma? Four-wheel-drive trucks with front lift should look at the 1.00” Front Differential Drop Kit, and you can browse everything else in our Tacoma collection, driveline components, and the full Coachbuilder lineup.
Coachbuilder Carrier Bearing Drop Kit | 0"–2" Rear Lift | Fits Toyota Tundra 1999–2006 & Tacoma 2005–2023 | Ekstrom Design FAQs
Will this fit my 2018 Tacoma?
Yes — this kit covers Tacoma 2005-2023 as well as Tundra 1999-2006, sized for trucks running 0"-2" of rear lift. One thing to confirm first: it installs at the center carrier bearing of a two-piece rear driveshaft, so if your truck has a one-piece driveshaft with no carrier bearing, the kit does not apply.
What symptoms tell me I need this kit?
A vibration or shudder when pulling away from a stop that started after you lifted or leveled the rear is the giveaway. Raising the rear changes the driveshaft's operating angles at the carrier bearing, and this kit drops the bearing to correct them. It's engineered for 0"-2" of rear lift — the range most add-a-leafs, blocks, and leveling setups produce on these trucks.
Is the hardware included, and what's the install like?
Hardware is included with this kit, along with the pair of CNC-machined billet aluminum spacers. They bolt between the frame support and the top of the carrier bearing, and the job runs about 10-15 minutes with basic tools. Torque the bolts to 25 ft-lbs with the truck sitting on the ground.
