Artec Hardcore Diff Cover for Jeep Wrangler JL M186-D30 Front
The Artec Hardcore Diff Cover for the Jeep Wrangler JL M186-D30 front axle gives the exposed front pumpkin on 2018-and-newer non-Rubicon JLs real rock protection. Artec 3D-scanned the factory M186 casting, so the thick-wall nodular-iron cover clears the housing precisely and protects the ring gear and carrier without adding a snag point. The front diff leads the way over every ledge, and the thin stamped cover it ships with is not up to that job — this one is.
Features
- High-strength nodular-iron casting with thick walls for impact resistance
- Engineered from 3D scan files of the JL M186 front housing for precise fit and clearance
- CNC-machined sealing surface with a powder-coat finish
- Magnetic drain plug traps metal shavings during service
- High-strength steel fasteners install with a 5/16" Allen key torqued to 20-30 ft-lbs in a star sequence
- Fill plug removes with a 3/8" Allen wrench
- Made in the USA with a 1-year warranty against manufacturer defects
This fits the standard non-Rubicon JL front axle; Rubicons run the M210 Dana 44 and need the M210-D44 front cover. Plan on RTV or a Lube Locker gasket, which is not included. Armor the other end with the M200-D35 rear cover, add the JL/JT Apex Front Axle Truss if you run larger tires, and browse all diff covers.
Artec Hardcore Diff Cover for Jeep Wrangler JL M186-D30 Front FAQs
Will this fit my JL, or do I need the M210 cover?
This cover fits the front M186 (Dana 30) axle on 2018-and-newer non-Rubicon JLs — typically Sport and Sahara trims. Rubicons run the heavier M210 Dana 44 front and need Artec's M210-D44 cover. Check the axle tag or factory cover shape to confirm which axle you have.
Why does the 3D-scanned design matter on a diff cover?
Because the cover is modeled from a scan of the actual JL housing, it seals against the flange cleanly and keeps tight clearances around the carrier while still adding thick nodular-iron protection. A universal-fit cover cannot follow the M186 casting that closely.
What is involved in the install?
It is a bolt-on job: drain the fluid, scrape and clean the mating surface, seal with RTV or a Lube Locker gasket (not included), then torque the supplied fasteners with a 5/16" Allen key to 20-30 ft-lbs in a star sequence. Refill through the fill plug, which takes a 3/8" Allen wrench.
