The Artec Hardcore Diff Cover for the Dana 44 turns one of the most common trail axles into a much tougher one. Cast from high-strength nodular iron with thick walls, it protects the ring gear, carrier, and any locker or selectable diff from the rock strikes that dent and crack a stamped-steel cover. Because the Dana 44 shows up front and rear across decades of Jeeps and trucks — including TJ and JK Rubicon axles — one cover armors a huge range of builds, and it bolts on with hand tools.
Features
- High-strength nodular-iron casting built for extreme-condition durability
- Thick walls armor the ring gear and carrier against direct impacts
- Fits Dana 44 front and rear, standard and reverse rotation, including disconnect fronts
- Magnetic drain plug captures metal shavings from the gear oil
- Powder-coat finish resists corrosion and abrasion
- High-strength steel fasteners install with 5/16" and 3/8" Allen keys, torqued to 20-30 ft-lbs in a star sequence
- Made in the USA with a 1-year warranty against manufacturer defects
The Dana 44 was built in many configurations, so verify your axle's rotation and cover-bolt pattern before ordering; seal with RTV or a Lube Locker gasket (not included). Note that JL and JT Rubicon axles are the M210/M220 castings with their own covers — see the M210 front and M220 rear versions. Browse the full range of diff covers from Artec Industries.
Artec Hardcore Diff Cover for Dana 44 FAQs
Which Dana 44 axles does this fit?
It fits a broad range of Dana 44 applications: front axles in disconnect, standard-rotation, and reverse-rotation forms, Dana 44 rears, and TJ and JK Rubicon front and rear axles. Because the 44 was built in so many configurations, verify your rotation and cover-bolt pattern before ordering. JL and JT M210/M220 axles use Artec's JL-specific covers.
What torque do the cover bolts need?
Artec specifies 20-30 ft-lbs in a star sequence — exact figures vary by axle. The fasteners install with 5/16" and 3/8" Allen keys, and torquing evenly in the criss-cross pattern seats the cover flat so the RTV or gasket seals properly.
Do I need a gasket, and is one included?
No gasket ships with the cover. Seal it with RTV silicone or a reusable Lube Locker gasket — either works against the machined flange. Clean all old gasket material off the housing first, and if you use RTV, give it the recommended setup time before refilling with gear oil.
