Triangulated Ford 8.8 Swap Kit with Truss for Jeep Wrangler TJ 1997-2006
This triangulated swap kit puts a Ford Explorer 8.8 rear axle under a Jeep Wrangler TJ and deletes the rear trackbar at the same time. The junkyard-friendly 8.8 is a big step up from the TJ's factory Dana 35, and this kit converts it with triangulated upper links for cleaner geometry and more articulation than the stock four-link. Every axle-side bracket comes in the box along with a reinforcing truss, so the housing gets stronger while you set it up for links. It is built for TJ owners doing a proper link-suspension rear swap, not a patch job.
Features
- 3/16" mild steel truss with 1/4" and 3/16" CNC laser cut brackets, far stronger than factory or thin aftermarket tabs
- Complete bracket set: upper and lower control arm mounts, shock mounts, anti-sway bar mounts, and coil spring perches with bump-stop pads
- Triangulated upper control arms eliminate the rear trackbar entirely
- 2.63" upper link mount width accepts 1.25" rod ends and other large joints
- Outer brackets index to the truss, so nothing needs to be measured or guessed during fit-up
- High Clearance option swaps in flat lower link brackets and shock mounts to shrug off rocks
- Roughly 70% less welding than earlier designs, which means less housing warp
- Made in the USA
Because this is a triangulated four-link conversion, OEM control arms will not work — plan on new upper links and frame-side brackets to finish the job, and the weld-on install calls for solid welding and fabrication skills. Keeping the factory link layout instead? The standard TJ 8.8 Swap Kit with Truss reuses your stock geometry, and ZJ owners have their own ZJ 8.8 Swap Kit. Triangulated Ford 8.8 Swap Kit with Truss for Jeep Wrangler TJ 1997-2006 FAQs
What axle and Jeep is this kit for?
It swaps a Ford Explorer 8.8 rear axle into a Jeep Wrangler TJ (1997-2006). The kit includes the reinforcing truss plus every axle-side bracket — upper and lower control arm mounts, shock mounts, anti-sway bar mounts, and coil perches with bump-stop pads. Source a solid Explorer 8.8 housing before you order.
Can I keep my factory control arms and trackbar?
No. This kit locates the axle with triangulated upper control arms, which eliminates the trackbar entirely. You will need new upper links and frame-side brackets to complete the conversion — OEM control arms are not compatible with this geometry.
How hard is the install, and what does the High Clearance option change?
This is a weld-on kit that requires solid welding and fabrication skills, though the outer brackets index to the truss so nothing has to be measured from scratch, and the design needs roughly 70% less welding than earlier setups. The High Clearance option substitutes flat lower link brackets and shock mounts that are less likely to catch and bend on rocks.
