The Artec Hardcore Diff Cover for the Dana 30 armors one of the most common Jeep front axles with a thick-wall nodular-iron casting. A front pumpkin leads the way over every ledge, and the stock stamped cover is a frequent casualty — dented, cracked, or leaking after one bad line. This cover shields the ring gear, carrier, and any front locker so the classic cast Dana 30 under a TJ, LJ, YJ, XJ, or ZJ keeps working after a hard hit. It bolts on with common hand tools and no welding.
Features
- High-strength nodular-iron casting with thick walls for genuine rock protection
- CNC-machined sealing surface for a clean, leak-free fit
- Powder-coat finish for corrosion resistance
- Magnetic drain and fill plugs catch wear metal during fluid service
- High-strength steel fasteners install with a 5/16" Allen key; fill plug takes a 3/8" Allen
- Cover bolts torque to 20-30 ft-lbs in a star sequence
- Made in the USA with a 1-year warranty against manufacturer defects
This fits the classic cast Dana 30 front diff; the newer Jeep JL runs an M186-badged Dana 30 that needs the JL M186-D30 Hardcore cover instead. Seal it with RTV or a Lube Locker gasket (not included). Trussing the axle for bigger tires? See the Front Axle Truss for TJ, LJ, ZJ, and browse all diff covers from Artec Industries.
Artec Hardcore Diff Cover for Dana 30 FAQs
Which Dana 30 does this cover fit?
It fits the classic cast Dana 30 front differential used on the TJ and LJ Wrangler, YJ Wrangler, XJ Cherokee, and ZJ Grand Cherokee. The Jeep JL uses an M186-badged Dana 30 with a different casting — that axle takes Artec's JL-specific M186-D30 cover instead.
How is it installed?
Drain the old fluid, clean the housing flange, then bolt the cover on with the supplied high-strength fasteners using a 5/16" Allen key torqued to 20-30 ft-lbs in a star sequence. Seal with RTV or a Lube Locker gasket — not included — then refill through the 3/8" Allen fill plug. No welding is required.
Why replace a factory cover that is not damaged yet?
The front diff takes the first hit on almost every obstacle, and the stock stamped cover dents and can crack on impact, risking a leak miles from the trailhead. The nodular-iron casting is far thicker, and the magnetic drain and fill plugs are cheap insurance for the ring-and-pinion between services.
