Fitment requires drilling the knuckles and pitman arm to 3/4"; set toe-in to 1/16"-1/8" and re-torque after the first 50 miles. What drilling or fabrication does the install need?
The steering knuckles and the pitman arm must be drilled out to 3/4" to accept the Grade 8 bolts — a drill press is recommended for the pitman arm. No welding is required. After install, set toe-in to 1/16"-1/8" and re-check the hardware after about 50 miles.
Will it work with high-steer arms or aftermarket knuckles?
Reid Racing knuckles are supported using Artec's published reference lengths, but the kit is not compatible with weld-on high-steer arms. If you are building a high-steer or 1-ton swap setup, Artec's DIY steel steering kit is the better match.
Is aluminum really strong enough for a tie rod?
Yes. The links are solid 1.5" 7075-T6 aerospace aluminum, and unlike steel tubing that stays bent after a rock strike, 7075 can deform and return to straight. Paired with heat-treated chromoly JMX Pro rod ends, it is a trail-proven setup on hard-wheeled JKs.
