This mount lets a Sony aftermarket microphone take over the 4Runner's factory microphone location in the headliner console. It keeps the mic out of sight, retains clear voice pickup, and avoids a clip-on stalk on the dash or windshield.
The prep is simple but specific. You remove the factory microphone, cut the small mounting ball off the Sony mic with side cutters or a utility knife, then feed the 3.5mm jack end through the bottom of the mount and pull the slack through. The rounded end of the microphone should sit inline with the two legs of the mount.
Fitment
2010-2024 Toyota 4Runner. Console removal varies by trim.
Install notes
With a sunglasses compartment, open it and remove two screws. With terrain setting knobs such as TRD Pro or Off-Road, pull off the control panel to reveal the screws. Pull the front of the console straight down. Unplug the harness, push the factory microphone forward to release the dome light switch and cover, unplug the mic, and refit the switch and cover. Click the mount into the console with the legs down, route the wire toward the mirror, behind the A-pillar cover and under the dash, and plug it into the red mic port on the Sony radio chassis.
