About the brand
J&L Oil Separator Co. of Chesapeake, Virginia makes one thing: vehicle-specific billet oil separators, also called catch cans. The newest Explorer with the 2.3L EcoBoost gets a PCV-side catch can, separate from the earlier 2020-2024 driver-side unit.
Oil vapor leaves the crankcase through the PCV system and, on most engines, ends up back in the intake. Over time it films the intake tube and manifold runners and can dilute the fuel charge, which lowers effective octane. Boosted engines make it worse because crankcase pressure runs higher. This J&L separator sits in that path and catches the oil before it gets to the intake.
The body is machined from solid 6061 billet aluminum. The base is knurled so you can twist it off by hand to empty it, and an O-ring keeps it sealed. Inside, a fine stainless steel mesh filter turns vapor into droplets heavy enough to drop into the reservoir. The tank holds 3 oz, which sounds small, but most PCV systems send far less than that your way between drains.
Fitment
Fits the 2025-2026 Ford Explorer with the 2.3L EcoBoost engine. For 2020-2024 trucks, see the driver-side 2.3L part.
Install notes
Plug-and-play with OEM-style quick-connect fittings. Press the grey or green release tab on Ford fittings and leave the clips in place. Check the can after the first 500 to 1,000 miles to learn how fast yours collects, then set a drain schedule from there. Cold weather adds condensation, so check more often in winter. Give it a thorough cleaning every 15,000 miles or so, and dispose of the collected oil properly; it is mixed with fuel and water and does not belong back in the engine.
This product is not CARB exempt. It is not for sale or use in California or any other state that follows California emission standards, and orders shipping to a California address are cancelled.

Specifications
J&L Oil Separator 3.0 PCV Side FAQs
Will this fit my vehicle?
Yes for the 2025-2026 Explorer with the 2.3L EcoBoost. The 2020-2024 Explorer uses a different J&L part.
How hard is the install?
The vendor describes it as plug-and-play with basic hand tools and OEM-style quick-connect fittings. Installation instructions can be downloaded from the manufacturer's product page.
How often do I need to empty it?
Plan a first check at 500 to 1,000 miles. Most applications collect about an ounce per 1,000 miles, but driving style, climate and engine condition change that. Winter driving collects faster because of condensation.
Do I need a separator on both sides of the engine?
In most cases only the PCV (dirty) side needs one, since that side sees vacuum most of the time. Some turbo engines can show oil on the clean side under frequent towing, but on most engines you will see very little there.
Can I get more than 3 oz of capacity?
Yes. J&L's reservoir extension is compatible with this application and raises total capacity from 3 oz to 6 oz. It is sold separately.
