ICON's Vehicle Specific (V.S.) 2.5 Aluminum Series is an aluminum-bodied shock whose length and damping tune are set for one application at a time rather than shared across a range of trucks. This listing is the front pair with remote reservoirs, sized for trucks running 0-3.5" of lift.
On remote-reservoir designs like this one, ICON machines a 6061 billet aluminum manifold a few inches below the top cap. That creates an internal bump zone which ICON says adds about 20% more damping force near the end of compression, helping the truck resist harsh bottom-outs and stay controlled when the suspension compresses quickly. Like every ICON shock, it is also 100% rebuildable and revalveable, so it can be serviced and retuned rather than replaced.
The CDEV is the interesting part. It is an electronically controlled compression valve that meters oil flow to set damping, infinitely variable and able to react in under 40 milliseconds. ICON tailors the hydraulic circuits to each vehicle, and the system runs through ICON Intelligent Control and its mobile app, using an onboard G-force sensor and gyroscope to predict terrain and adjust the valve. The trade-off is added complexity compared with a manual valve; the payoff is tuning from inside the truck.
