JL Shield Front Axle CAD Skid for Jeep Wrangler JL & Gladiator JT
The Center Axle Disconnect actuator hangs off the front differential of every Jeep Wrangler JL and Gladiator JT, guarded by a thin factory stamping that folds the first time it meets granite. The Artec JL Shield is a true OEM-replacement skid for that CAD/FAD housing, cut from 1/4" steel — roughly twice the thickness of the stock cover — fully welded, and hard powder coated. An extended, angled leading edge ramps the axle over obstacles instead of letting them catch, and the whole thing swaps on in about five minutes.
Features
- Heavy-duty 1/4" steel, about twice the thickness of the OEM CAD skid
- Fully welded and hard powder coated for durability and corrosion resistance
- Extended, angled leading edge with a bent flange that ramps over rock
- Countersunk flat-head bolts on the lower holes sit flush — nothing hangs down to catch
- Reuses the two upper factory bolts; four bolts total, roughly a 5-minute install
- Designed from OEM data files, CNC laser cut and bent in-house
- Made in the USA from US materials
Fits the front axle CAD/FAD area on the Jeep Wrangler JL (2018-present) and Gladiator JT (2020-present), bolting to the factory locations with no welding or drilling — the powder coat means no painting either. It's an easy first piece of front-axle armor to pair with the JL eTorque Battery Skid or a JL-JT APEX Front Axle Truss on harder-working axles. Browse more skid plates and drivetrain protection.
JL Shield Front Axle CAD Skid for Jeep Wrangler JL & Gladiator JT FAQs
What is the CAD/FAD and why does it need a skid?
The Center Axle Disconnect (also called Front Axle Disconnect) is the actuator on the JL/JT front differential that engages the front axle. It hangs low off the diff behind a thin factory cover, and a hard rock strike there can leave you without four-wheel drive. This shield doubles the steel over it.
Does it fit both the Wrangler and the Gladiator?
Yes. It fits the front axle CAD/FAD area on the Jeep Wrangler JL (2018-present) and the Gladiator JT (2020-present), since both share the same front axle disconnect design.
How hard is the install?
About five minutes with hand tools. You reuse the two upper factory bolts and add the supplied countersunk flat-heads in the two lower holes — four bolts total, no welding, no drilling, and the powder-coated finish needs no paint.
