What does a headache rack do in a Wrangler?
It puts a fixed barrier behind the rear seat so cargo stays in the cargo area instead of sliding into the passenger space over bumps, on descents, or during hard braking. If you haul tools, recovery gear, or camp kit on the GearUp rack, it is a straightforward safety upgrade.
Does it work without the base GearUp rack?
No. It is an add-on module that mounts to the Artec GearUp Rear Cargo System using the rack's existing structure and mounting points. It is not a standalone barrier, so you need the base rack installed first.
Will it limit how I configure the rest of the rack?
No — the kit preserves the GearUp system's adjustable, modular layout. You can still reposition shelves and combine it with the single shelf and MOLLE panel modules, and it installs with the included hardware using basic hand tools.
