This APEX Pinion Guard puts 3/8" laser-cut steel between the rocks and your pinion, while the integrated bridge welds into the Artec 14-bolt APEX truss to box the housing — tying the axle tubes to the truss so they cannot rotate under load and adding real rigidity to a 1-ton rear. It is the finishing piece for a trussed 14-bolt on a hard-used crawler, with an interlocked-gusset, low-profile design that keeps geometry clean.

This guard is designed exclusively for the Artec 14-bolt APEX Short Truss — the bridge welds into that truss, so it will not fit a bare housing or another brand's truss. Verify your pinion U-joint is 1350 or 1410 before ordering. Installation requires welding and basic fabrication skills, and the bare steel needs paint or coating once burned in. Will this work without the APEX truss?
No. The bridge is designed to weld directly into the Artec 14-bolt APEX Short Truss, so this guard will not fit a bare 14-bolt housing or a different truss. If your axle is not trussed yet, install the APEX Short Truss first and add this guard to complete the package.
Does installation require welding?
Yes. The bridge welds into the APEX truss, so plan on proper welding and basic fabrication skills. The guard itself then bolts to the back of the pinion ring with 3/8" bolts and pressed nuts, which keeps the guard removable for driveline service. Paint or coat the bare steel after welding.
Which U-joints will it clear?
The guard clears both 1350 and 1410 pinion U-joints, which covers the common 1-ton driveshaft setups run on swapped 14-bolts. Confirm your yoke and joint series before ordering, and grade-8 7/16" and 3/8" hardware comes in the box.
