Back Half Frame Kit for Jeep Wrangler TJ/LJ 1997-2006 & YJ 1987-1995

$406.99

The Artec Industries TJ-YJ Back Half Frame Kit replaces the bulky rear section of a Jeep Wrangler TJ, LJ, or YJ frame with a narrower, purpose-built weld-in structure. Notching factory rails for coilover and big-axle clearance weakens them; cutting the back half off and welding in this kit gets you the clearance without the compromise, finishing at 37.5" wide. Designed in CAD from Chrysler frame data, the pieces interlock with jig and key holes that only assemble one way, so the new structure self-aligns as you build it. This is a serious fabrication project for rigs that have outgrown bolt-on suspension.

Features

  • CNC laser cut and bent from 1/4" steel with 3/8" top plates and perches and 1/4" gussets
  • CAD-designed from Chrysler frame models for an accurate mate to the factory rails
  • Interlocking jig and key holes assemble one way only and self-align
  • Fish-mouthed ends and weld holes maximize weld surface area
  • Curved transitions add strength where the new structure meets the stock frame
  • Finished width of 37.5" clears coilovers and wide heavy-duty axles
  • Made in the USA

Fitment covers the Wrangler TJ (1997-2006), LJ Unlimited (2004-2006), and YJ (1987-1995). Straight sections use 2" x 3" tubing that you supply, a fuel cell replaces the stock tank, and a body lift is recommended for clearance — Artec recommends this kit for off-road builds. Cutting, fixturing, and structural welding skills are required. Build out the new rear with the Dual 3-Link Bracket or Inner Frame Brackets, and see more frame brackets for your Jeep Wrangler.

Back Half Frame Kit for Jeep Wrangler TJ/LJ 1997-2006 & YJ 1987-1995 FAQs

Which Jeeps does this kit fit?

It fits the Jeep Wrangler TJ (1997-2006), LJ Unlimited (2004-2006), and YJ (1987-1995). The kit was CAD-designed from Chrysler frame data, so the transition pieces mate accurately to the factory rails on all three platforms.

Why narrow the back half of the frame at all?

Coilovers and wide heavy-duty axles need room the stock rear rails don't give. Notching the factory frame weakens it — replacing the back half with this 37.5"-wide structure gets you the clearance while keeping a strong, fully boxed rear frame.

What do I need to supply to finish the job?

You supply the 2" x 3" tubing for the straight sections, a fuel cell to replace the stock tank, and ideally a body lift for clearance. The install means cutting off the stock rear frame and welding in the kit, so competent cutting, fixturing, and structural welding are required — Artec recommends it for off-road builds.
