The Artec Industries Ford Dana 60 Front Truss for 1985-1991.5 trucks reinforces the kingpin front 60 that makes these axles such a popular one-ton swap. A 3/8" mild steel top spans the entire housing to fight tube flex from big tires and hard hits, and the flat upper surface doubles as the mounting deck for the upper links of a 3-link or 4-link front end. It arrives unwelded in precision CNC-cut pieces, which also makes it adaptable to shortened or otherwise modified housings.
Features
- 3/8" thick mild steel truss top for serious housing reinforcement
- Interlocked 1/4" gussets add strength and make assembly nearly self-jigging
- Precision CNC cut and bent in the USA for consistent fitment
- Spans the full axle length instead of just capping the link-mount area
- Low-profile design places link joints about 8" from the axle centerline
- Ships unwelded, so it can be adapted to cut-down or modified housings
- Flat top accepts weld-on upper link brackets for a linked front end
This truss fits the 1985-1991.5 Ford kingpin front Dana 60 as designed; per Artec it also works on 1992-1997 balljoint axles and later SuperDuty front 60s with minor truss modification, while 2005-and-up SuperDuty axles need substantial casting trimming. It is weld-on bare steel: stitch-weld in sequence, let it cool slowly, then paint. Running full-hydro steering? Step up to the Ford Front 60 Ram Mount & Truss '85-'91.5. Early truck? Ford Dana 60 Front Truss 1985-1991.5 FAQs
Which Ford axles does this truss fit?
It is designed around the 1985-1991.5 Ford kingpin front Dana 60. Artec notes it also works on 1992-1997 balljoint Dana 60s and later SuperDuty front axles with minor modification to the truss, while 2005-and-newer SuperDuty axles require a lot of casting to be trimmed away. If your housing has been cut down, the unwelded pieces make that adaptation easier.
Is welding required to install it?
Yes. This is a weld-on truss that ships unwelded as bare steel, and it demands solid welding and fabrication skills. Fit and tack the pieces, stitch-weld in sequence to keep heat under control, and let the housing cool slowly — then prime and paint the bare metal.
How do I attach my upper links?
The flat 3/8" top is the mounting deck. Weld-on brackets such as the Artec Truss Upper Link Mounts position your link joints roughly 8" from the axle centerline, which gives good geometry for a 3-link or 4-link front end while clearing the differential.
