The 14 bolt Rear Short Truss is Artec’s heavy-gauge reinforcement for the GM 14 bolt rear axle, built for rigs that get used hard enough to bend a one-ton housing. A 3/8" thick truss top is backed by 1/4" interlocking gussets and an integrated ram mount, tying the axle tubes into the center section with serious section strength. The narrow, low-profile footprint slips between leaf springs on a sprung-under build or serves as the foundation for a rear link conversion.
Features
- 3/8" mild steel truss top — double the plate of Artec’s 3/16" Apex short trusses
- 1/4" mild steel ram mount and gussets, CNC cut and bent
- Interlocking gussets self-fixture during assembly for accurate, strong welds
- Low profile lands link joints about 9" from the axle centerline for good geometry
- Narrow width stays clear of leaf springs and surrounding components
- Made in the USA
It fits most Chevy and GMC truck 14 bolt rear axles but does not fit a Dana 70, so identify your housing first. This is a weld-on part demanding extensive welding and fabrication skill — keep the housing level, set your pinion angle before final welding, stitch weld in an alternating pattern to control warp, and finish the bare steel with paint or powder coat once it cools. Round out the axle with the 14 bolt Front Truss up front, add width with Modular Truss Ends, or compare the lighter 14 bolt Rear Apex Short Truss; more housing protection is in our axle reinforcements collection.
GM 14 Bolt Rear Short Truss FAQs
Will this truss fit my rear axle?
It is built for the GM 14 bolt rear axle and fits most Chevy and GMC truck 14 bolt housings. It does not fit a Dana 70, which looks similar at a glance — identify your axle by its cover bolt count and casting before ordering. Because it is axle-specific, it works regardless of which vehicle the 14 bolt sits under.
What skills and tools do I need to install it?
Extensive welding and general fabrication skills are required — this is not a bolt-on part. Plan on a welder, cutting tools, and jack stands; keep the housing level, set the pinion angle before final welding, and stitch weld in an alternating pattern so heat does not warp the tubes. The interlocking gussets self-fixture, which makes accurate assembly easier.
Does it come finished, and what exactly is included?
You get the 3/8" truss top with its integrated ram mount plus the interlocking 1/4" gusset set, all in bare mild steel. Clean off any oils, weld it out, and then apply paint or powder coat — bare steel will rust if left uncoated. No hardware is needed since the entire installation is welded.
