GM 14 Bolt Rear Apex Short Truss

$153.99

The 14 bolt Rear Apex Short Truss reinforces the AAM/GM 14 bolt, the affordable full-float rear that anchors more one-ton Jeep and truck swaps than any other axle. Strong as the 14 bolt is, its long tubes will still take a set under big tires and hard hits; this 13 lb truss ties them into the center section and keeps the housing true. The low peaked deck also doubles as a clean base for upper link joints when you are drawing up your own suspension rather than buying a bracket-located swap kit.

Features

  • CNC laser cut from 3/16" mild steel and precision bent to the housing
  • Patented Apex peaked top out-stiffens flat-top truss designs
  • Around 70% less welding than earlier trusses — less warp, faster turnaround, lower cost
  • Dimpled holes reduce weight while adding panel stiffness
  • Low profile locates upper link joints over the diff with sound geometry
  • The 14 bolt’s cast steel center section welds with a common MIG machine
  • Two-piece construction for compact shipping; arrives as bare steel ready to weld and finish

Confirm you have the full-float AAM/GM 14 bolt before ordering, plan the install for a capable welder — preheat, alternate passes, and slow-cool the housing — and budget for paint or powder coat since the truss ships bare. Building the axle further? The heavier 14 bolt Rear Short Truss adds a 3/8" top and ram mount, the 14 bolt Front Truss covers a front-mounted 14 bolt, and the Sterling Rear Apex Short Truss is the matching piece for Super Duty rears. Everything else lives in our axle reinforcements collection.

GM 14 Bolt Rear Apex Short Truss FAQs

Which 14 bolt axle does this fit?

It fits the AAM/GM 14 bolt rear axle, the full-float housing pulled from GM three-quarter and one-ton trucks for budget one-ton swaps. The truss is axle-specific rather than vehicle-specific, so it works under Jeep and truck builds alike. It does not fit other rear axles — measure and identify your housing before ordering.

Can I weld this on with a MIG welder?

Yes. The 14 bolt’s center section is cast steel, which welds with a common MIG machine — no exotic process required. Still treat it as a job for a capable welder: preheat the housing, alternate weld passes side to side, and let the axle cool slowly, ideally wrapped in a welding blanket, to keep the tubes from warping.

How is this different from the standard 14 bolt Rear Short Truss?

This Apex version uses a 3/16" peaked two-piece design at 13 lbs with dimpled holes and about 70% less welding, so it is the lighter, quicker install. The standard 14 bolt Rear Short Truss runs a 3/8" top plate with 1/4" interlocking gussets and an integrated ram mount for maximum brute strength. Both fit between leaf springs and both work as link-mount bases.
