14 Bolt Backbone Full-Length Rear Axle Truss for GM and Dodge Full-Float Axles

$174.99

The Artec Industries 14 Bolt Backbone Truss is a full-length top truss for the GM and Dodge 14-bolt full-float rear axle, the default housing for serious one-ton builds. A short center truss protects the middle of the axle but leaves the outer tubes unbraced, which is exactly where a housing folds when a big-tired rig lands hard or takes hits at speed. The Backbone runs brake flange to brake flange so the entire housing is supported and your gear pattern stays true. If your 14-bolt lives under a Jeep swap, buggy, or heavy tow rig, this is the piece that keeps it straight.

Features

  • 1/8" mild steel truss top, precision CNC cut and bent for repeatable fitment
  • Internally jigging gussets align the assembly and carry load through the housing
  • Spans the full axle, brake flange to brake flange, so the tube ends are braced too
  • Triangulated profile sheds rocks instead of dragging boxy edges
  • Removable, trimmable center section clears aftermarket differential covers
  • Includes eight pressed-in nuts and button-head hardware to hold the assembly for welding
  • Made in the USA

The truss is built for 68" WMS (wheel mounting surface) housings; narrower axles work by trimming the ends, and leaf-sprung setups can run it with trimming as well, so measure your housing and mock up against spring perches and link mounts before final welding. This is a weld-on part—the internal gussets set alignment, but full-penetration welds by a competent welder finish the job. Round out a 14-bolt build with the ABS Sensor Mounts for the 14 Bolt Axle or a JK 1 Ton 14 Bolt 60 Tooth Tone Ring, and find more housing armor in our axle reinforcements collection.

14 Bolt Backbone Full-Length Rear Axle Truss for GM and Dodge Full-Float Axles FAQs

Will it fit my 14-bolt if the axle has been narrowed?

The Backbone is built for GM and Dodge 14-bolt full-float housings at 68" WMS (wheel mounting surface to wheel mounting surface). Narrower housings can still run it—you trim the ends of the truss to match your tube length. Measure WMS width before ordering and mock the truss up against your spring perches and link mounts.

Will it clear an aftermarket differential cover?

Yes, that is what the removable center section is for. The center piece can be trimmed to fit around your diff cover—it welds to the cover area and bolts to the truss sides using the included pressed-in nuts and button-head hardware. Plan on some careful cutting and fitting for the cleanest result.

How involved is the welding?

This is a full weld-on truss, so competent MIG welding with full-penetration welds is the expectation. The internally jigging gussets locate everything and carry load once welded, and the included hardware holds the assembly together while you work. Stitch in stages to manage heat, and paint the bare steel when finished.
