The Artec Ford 9" Rear Top Truss is the link-builder's truss for 9-inch housings on 3.5" tubes. A 1/4" steel top plate runs the full width of the axle, bracing the tubes end to end while presenting a flat, clean deck for your upper link mounts about 8" off the axle centerline. Below it, interlocked 10-gauge gussets get the dimple-die treatment — rolled-lip lightening holes that stiffen each panel while cutting weight. If you are hanging a linked rear suspension off a big-tube 9-inch, this is the platform to build from.

Features

  • 1/4" steel truss top with 10-gauge (.130") gussets
  • Sized for Ford 9" housings with 3.5" diameter axle tubes
  • Full-width span reinforces the tubes across their entire length
  • Flat top deck positions upper-link joints roughly 8" from the axle centerline
  • Dimple-died gussets add panel stiffness while trimming weight
  • Interlocked construction self-locates for accurate weld-up
  • Trims easily to fit both fabricated and stamped housings

Verify your tubes measure 3.5" before ordering; housings with 3.0" tubes should run the Ford 9 Inch Backbone Truss instead. This is a weld-on part for capable fabricators — Artec calls for careful heat management around 400 degrees and alternating stitch welds side to side, with no need to weld every inch of every seam. Clean off the machining oils and prep for paint or powder coat when done. Add Truss Upper Link Mounts to finish the link side, and find more bracing in axle reinforcements.

Specifications

  • Material: 1/4" steel truss top; 10-gauge (.130") gussets
  • Gussets: Interlocked, dimple-died for stiffness and weight savings
  • Fitment: Ford 9" housings with 3.5" diameter axle tubes; trims to fit fabricated and stamped housings
  • Span: Full width
  • Link mount height: Approx. 8" from axle centerline
  • Installation: Weld-on; extensive welding and fabrication skills required
  • Finish: Bare steel; clean machining oils and prep for paint or powder coat

Ford 9 Inch Rear Top Truss for 3.5" Tube FAQs

What tube diameter does this truss require?

It is built for Ford 9-inch housings with 3.5" diameter axle tubes, and it can be trimmed to shape for both fabricated and stamped housings. If your 9-inch runs 3.0" tubes, Artec's Backbone Truss is the right piece instead. Measure your tubes before ordering.

Can I mount my upper links directly to it?

Yes — that is the point of the flat top deck. It places upper-link joints about 8" from the axle centerline for good link geometry, and Artec's Truss Upper Link Mounts are made to weld straight to it. You get housing reinforcement and a link platform in one part.

How much welding does the install take?

It is a weld-on part that calls for real fabrication skills, but Artec notes stitch welding is preferred and welding every inch of every seam is not necessary. Manage heat carefully — roughly 400 degrees, alternating sides — to keep the housing from warping. Clean the machining oils off and paint or powder coat the bare steel when finished.
