Low Profile Ford Kingpin-Balljoint Front Truss (1985 - 1997)
Artec's Low Profile Ford Kingpin/Balljoint Front Truss is a weld-on reinforcement for the Ford Dana 60 front axle, the go-to one-ton axle for serious Jeep and buggy swaps. Rather than a small mounting pad, this truss spans the full length of the axle to tie the tubes to the center section and stop the housing from flexing or bending under big tires and hard trail abuse. The low-profile shape is the key: it clears oil pans and allows more suspension uptravel than a tall truss.
Key Features
- 3/8 in. thick mild steel truss top with 1/4 in. mild steel gussets
- Interlocking gusset design — the main gussets are wider than the previous generation for added overall strength and easy self-fixturing assembly
- Super low profile for better oil pan clearance and more uptravel
- Spans the entire length of the axle for complete tube reinforcement, not just a link-mount pad
- Precision CNC cut and bent for accurate fitment
- Clearanced for the differential breather tube (breather adapters required)
- Made in the USA
Fitment & Compatibility
Fits Ford Kingpin Dana 60 front axles (1985-1991.5) and Ford Balljoint Dana 60 front axles (1992-1997). It is not applicable to 1978-1979 axles or later Super Duty axles. This is the truss to pair with a crossover/high-steer conversion; add the Raised Trackbar Bracket for a 3.5 in. Front Axle for a universal track bar mount and the Weld-on UCA Brackets for the Low Pro Front Truss to build your upper links.

Frequently Asked Questions
Which Ford Dana 60 axles does this fit?
Ford Kingpin front axles from 1985 to 1991.5 and Ford Balljoint front axles from 1992 to 1997. It does not fit 1978-1979 axles or later Super Duty axles.
Does it require welding?
Yes, this is a full weld-on truss. Position the truss level to the ground so the housing does not twist, alternate your stitch welds to control warping, pre-heat the axle to roughly 400°F, and let the housing cool slowly (a welding blanket overnight is ideal).
Why choose a low-profile truss?
A low-profile top clears oil pans in tight engine-bay swaps and gives you more usable uptravel than a tall truss, while still tying the tubes to the center for full-length reinforcement.
Do I need to trim the gussets?
Depending on your wheelbase and desired pinion angle, some gusset trimming may be needed. Test fit before final welding.
What about the differential breather?
The truss is clearanced for the diff breather tube, but breather adapters are required to route it cleanly.
