Traction Board Mounts

Traction boards only help if you can reach them fast and they stay put on corrugations — that is the mount's job. This collection covers quick-release traction board mounts and brackets for racks, bed rails, and swing-outs. See the boards themselves under traction boards.

What's in Traction Board Mounts

Traction boards are only useful if you can reach them fast, and these mounts keep them secured until you do. The collection holds quick-release mounts and brackets from Overland Kitted, Eezi-Awn, CBI Offroad Fab, MAXTRAX, Prinsu Design Studio, C4 Fabrication, Fishbone Offroad and Rago Fabrication.

Most are universal, and a few are tied to the Tacoma and Tundra. Several combine a traction board mount with a RotoPax fuel can mount, and there is a recovery track holder and a bed rack mount.

How to choose

First, decide where the boards will go: on a roof rack, a bed rack, a bed rail or a rear swing-out. Each location has its own mount style, and the mount has to match your rack's rail or crossbar shape and size. Check the listing for what the mount clamps to.

Next, check the board. Mounts are designed around particular boards, such as MAXTRAX, and boards from other brands can differ in width and thickness. If you own different boards, confirm that the mount fits them. Decide also whether you want to lock them in place, since boards are easy to steal.

Traction Board Mounts FAQs

Where is the best place to mount traction boards?

The best spot is where you can grab them without climbing and where they stay clear of mud and heat. Roof racks and rear swing-outs are common. Bed rails and bed racks are easier to reach, but they use bed space.

Will a MAXTRAX mount fit other brands of traction boards?

Not always. Mounts are shaped around specific boards, so different widths and thicknesses may not clamp properly. Check the listing and the dimensions of your boards.

Do I need a mount or can I just strap them on?

Straps work but they loosen, rattle and wear the boards. A proper mount holds them in a fixed position and gives quick release when you need them.

Can one mount hold a traction board and a RotoPax can?

Some of the listings, such as the Rotopax and MAXTRAX combination mounts, are made to carry both. Check the layout and weight to make sure your rack can handle it.

How do I stop traction boards from being stolen?

Use a mount with a lock or a locking hardware option where available, or add a cable or lock through the boards. Look at the mount description for security features.
