About MAXTRAX

MAXTRAX founder Brad McCarthy came up with the idea in 2001 after a risky beach recovery, and the boards went on sale in late 2005. The goal was simple: one person, no second vehicle, no anchor point, and a safe way out.

The boards are injection-molded in Australia from UV-stabilized, engineering-grade reinforced nylon. The MKII picked up awards at the 2010 SEMA Show, and 4WD trainers recommend MAXTRAX, and mining companies, government agencies and militaries use them.

What we carry from MAXTRAX

We stock MAXTRAX traction boards in MKII, XTREME and MINI, plus XTREME replacement teeth and the insert tool. For carrying them, there are mounting pins, roof rack accessories, carry bags and telltale leashes.

The rest of the recovery gear lineup includes kinetic recovery ropes, static winch rope, soft shackles, a fuse shackle, winch ring and Hitch 50. All of it is universal fit.

How to choose

Size the board to the rig and how often you use it. MKII and XTREME share the same length and width; the difference is weight and teeth.

  • MKII (about 7.5 lb per board): the all-rounder for typical full-size 4x4s.
  • XTREME (about 10 lb per board): replaceable hard-anodized alloy teeth for vehicles of 10,000+ lb or frequent recoveries.
  • MINI (about 4.4 lb per board): UTVs, Subarus and small 4x4s.
  • Mounting pins: MKII, LITE and MINI share one style, while XTREME uses its own.

In-stock items ship from NVMOS in 24–48 hours. Some MAXTRAX parts ship direct from the brand or are built to order, so check the product page for timing or call us before you plan an install weekend around it.

MAXTRAX warranty

MAXTRAX covers recovery boards for a limited lifetime against manufacturing defects when they are used per its instructions, for the original owner with proof of purchase. Burned or melted teeth from spinning tires, use on rocky or hard surfaces, wear, abuse and modified boards are not covered, so go easy on the throttle. Read the full MAXTRAX warranty summary.

MAXTRAX FAQs

Where are MAXTRAX made?

In Australia, injection-molded from UV-stabilized, engineering-grade reinforced nylon.

What is the MAXTRAX warranty?

A limited lifetime warranty on recovery boards against manufacturing defects, for the original owner. Damage from wheel spin, rocky surfaces, wear and abuse is excluded.

How fast do MAXTRAX orders ship from NVMOS?

In-stock items ship in 24–48 hours. Some items ship direct from the brand, so check the product page or call us.

Should I get MKII or XTREME?

The MKII suits most full-size 4x4s. The XTREME adds weight and replaceable alloy teeth for heavy vehicles of 10,000+ lb or frequent recoveries.

Why aren't melted teeth covered?

Burned or melted teeth come from tires spinning hard on the board, which MAXTRAX treats as use damage rather than a defect. Ease onto the board instead of flooring it.

Can I use MAXTRAX as a jack base or bridge?

Standard boards are not designed for jacking or bridging. MAXTRAX makes a dedicated jack base, and the boards should only carry light loads like a quad bike when used as a ramp.
