Toyota 4Runner Accessories: Where to Start by Category and Generation
The Toyota 4Runner has one of the deepest aftermarkets of any SUV, and three generations of trucks are still on the trail. That makes it easy to order a part built for the wrong years. This hub splits 4Runner accessories into eight categories, gives one to three places to start in each, and points you to our deeper guides when you want the detail.
Short answer: Good places to start on a 4Runner are lighting, rock sliders and skid plates, a roof rack or rear plate system, and a leveling kit or lift sized to your tires. Before ordering, confirm your generation (4th gen 2003–2009, 5th gen 2010–2024, 6th gen 2025+), whether a 5th gen is a 2010–2013 or 2014+ truck, your trim (Limited and TRD Pro often differ), and on 5th gen trucks whether you have KDSS.
4Runner accessories by category
Use this table to find the category you care about, then read the short section below it. The "where to start" column is a starting point, not a ranking.

Lighting, front bumpers and armor
Lighting
Work from the front: headlights for the road, fogs for close-in light, then ditch lights for the trail edges. On the 5th gen, the Morimoto XB Evo LED Headlights (2014–2024 4Runner) are sealed, plug-and-play assemblies with dual Bi-LED projectors. Morimoto says the standard drivers are DOT / FMVSS108 compliant, an optional Supercharged driver is for off-road use only, and included keys let you pick white or amber DRLs. For fogs, the Morimoto 4Runner (10-24) XB LED Fog Lights drop into the factory housings and plug into the stock H11 connectors, in white or amber. On a 6th gen, the Baja Designs Squadron 2.0 Sport A-Pillar Light Kit for the 2025–26 4Runner is a complete two-light kit with brackets, a toggle harness and hardware; Baja rates each light at 3,200 lumens at 30W. Our 4Runner lighting upgrade guide goes deeper on beam patterns and bulb swaps.
Front bumpers
Most 4Runner bumper questions come down to trim and factory tech. The DV8 Centric Series Winch Front Bumper (2014–2024 4Runner) is a mid-width bumper with a hidden winch mount, 1-inch thick D-ring mounts, a recessed 20-inch light bar mount and two 3-inch pod mounts. DV8 notes minimal cutting is required, it is not compatible with the Limited trim, and if you run the pods you need a winch with a wireless remote. On the 6th gen, the ADD 2025+ 4Runner Stealth Center Mount Front Bumper has a concealed winch mount and two 1-inch CNC clevis mounts for 3/4-inch D-rings, and ADD says it retains TSS and the OEM parking sensors. The 4Runner front bumper guide compares styles in more detail.
Sliders and skid plates
Sliders protect the rockers; skids protect the engine, transmission and transfer case. The Cali Raised Trail Edition Bolt On Rock Sliders for 2010–2024 4Runner use 1.75-inch DOM tube with .120-inch wall and come with the install hardware. Cali Raised says they do not fit 5th gen Limited models, and 2010–2013 trucks must remove the rock trim panel. For underneath, the C4 Fabrication 4Runner Full Skid Plates (5th Gen) are 3/16-inch P&O steel, bolt on, include oil drain and filter access covers, and C4 says they work with KDSS and non-KDSS trucks. On a 6th gen, the C4 Fabrication 4Runner Rock Runner Sliders (6th Gen, 2025+) bolt to the frame with 1.75-inch DOM tube and 3/16-inch plates. Read the rock sliders buying guide and our 4Runner skid plates guide before you choose.
Suspension, roof racks and storage
Suspension and lift
Before you pick a lift height, check what suspension your truck came with. KDSS, X-REAS and TRD Pro trucks often need different parts.
- Spacer lift, 4th and 5th gen. The ReadyLIFT 3"F / 2"R SST Lift Kit covers 2003–2024 4Runners, 2WD and 4WD, in non-Trail editions, with strut extensions, differential drop brackets and rear spring spacers, and ReadyLIFT lists tires up to 33 inches. It will not work on TRD Pro, X-REAS or KDSS suspension.
- Coilover system, 5th gen. The ICON Stage 1 Suspension System for the 2010–2024 4Runner pairs adjustable 0–3.5" front 2.5 Series coilovers with rear 2.0 shocks and 2-inch lift rear springs.
- 6th gen. The ReadyLIFT 2.5" SST Lift Kit for the 2025–2026 4Runner adds 2.5 inches up front with a rear coil spacer. ReadyLIFT lists a 285/75R17 on a 17x8 +35 wheel, and says it is not for TRD Pro or Trailhunter packages.
Plan on an alignment after any lift. Our 4Runner lift kit guide and leveling kit vs lift kit cover the tradeoffs, and Fitting 35s on the 5th Gen covers going big on tires. Browse 4Runner lift kits to compare.
Roof racks
For the 5th gen, the Prinsu 5th Gen 4Runner Roof Rack, Full Non-Drill is powder-coated aluminum, bolts to the factory points, and Prinsu rates it at 600 lb dynamic and 1,000 lb static. The KC HiLiTES Platform One Roof Rack for 2010–2024 4Runner sits a maximum of 3.75" above the roof with hidden wire channels for lights; KC says your truck's roof load limit governs. On a 6th gen, the Rago 2025+ Toyota 4Runner Roof Rack is a bolt-on aluminum rack with eight crossmembers, and Rago says it works with the factory sunroof. See the 4Runner roof rack guide for more.
Interior and cargo storage
A plate system gives you a flat floor to build on, then drawers or kitchen modules bolt to it. The Goose Gear Rear Plate System for the 2010–2024 5th Gen comes in versions for trucks with or without the third row and the factory slide-out tray. Goose Gear says it needs no cutting or drilling of the vehicle, but the rear carpet, underlayment foam and some plastic trim come out, and the third-row delete version needs minor trimming of two side infill panels. If you want drawers in one kit, the Trail Grid Pro Toyota 4Runner Drawer System fits the 2010–2024 4Runner with an extruded aluminum frame, a King Starboard top plate and locking drawers. On a 6th gen, the Goose Gear 6th Gen Non-Hybrid Explore Series Rear Plate System is bolt-in and reversible, with four hatches to the space below; it is for non-hybrid, non-third-row trucks, and Goose Gear lists a separate 6th Gen Hybrid Explore Series Rear Plate System. The 4Runner overland build guide shows how storage fits into a full build, and the Goose Gear Toyota 4Runner collection has the modules.
Emblems, styling and recovery
Emblems and styling
Emblem kits are a low-effort way to make a 4Runner look like yours. Tufskinz kits use 3M automotive-grade adhesive and, per Tufskinz, install with no drilling or cutting:
- Tufskinz Grille Letter Overlays, 2010–2024 4Runner: a 6-piece domed kit that sets into the factory grille lettering, about 15 minutes to install.
- Tufskinz Exterior Emblem Inserts, 2014–2024 4Runner: a 6-piece kit that installs over the factory emblems.
- Tufskinz Liftgate Letter Inserts, 2025–2026 4Runner: a 6-piece domed kit cut for the 6th gen liftgate lettering.
See the full Tufskinz Toyota 4Runner collection.
Recovery
Start with solid attachment points. On a 6th gen, the SXTH Element Front Recovery Points replace the OEM front points on the 2025+ 4Runner (the title says 2024+, so confirm fit on the product page); SXTH rates each at 11,000 lbs in the direction of pull and recommends a bridle. For a winch bumper, the DV8 Elite Series 3/4" D-Ring Shackles are a forged steel pair with a 7/8-inch pin and an 8 ton working load limit per DV8, and the DV8 Xtract Winch Fairlead is a closed-link fairlead for synthetic rope with an 18,000 lb working load limit per DV8. Browse off-road recovery gear for straps and kits.
4Runner accessories by generation
Parts rarely cross generations, so start here before you shop.
4th gen (2003–2009)
The 4th gen still has solid support. The Morimoto 4Runner (03-09) 2Banger LED Ditch Light System bolts to existing A-pillar mounting points with no drilling. The C4 Fabrication Overland Series Front Bumper (4th Gen) is 3/16-inch steel, fits most 8k–12k winches and takes a 30-inch single-row bar; unless ordered powder coated, it must be painted or coated before install. The Cali Raised Step Edition Bolt On Rock Sliders for 2003–2009 4Runner are not compatible with the Limited or with X-REAS suspension components, per Cali Raised. For cargo, the Goose Gear 2003–2009 4th Gen Rear Plate System needs no drilling, though trucks with the rear subfloor storage need two tabs cut.
5th gen (2010–2024)
The largest selection in this guide is for the 5th gen. Two splits matter: 2010–2013 vs 2014–2024 (front bumpers and headlights often differ), and trim, since Limited trucks and KDSS-equipped trucks are excluded from some parts. On 2014–2024 trucks with Toyota Safety Sense, check whether a bumper needs a TSS relocation bracket; C4 lists one as required on its Overland Series bumper for TSS trucks.
6th gen (2025+)
The 6th gen is new, and many listings run 2025–2026 only. Check drivetrain: Goose Gear builds separate hybrid and non-hybrid plate systems, and C4 offers its 6th gen full skids for the iForce 2.4L turbo or iForce MAX hybrid. ReadyLIFT says its 2.5" SST kit excludes the TRD Pro and Trailhunter packages, so confirm your trim on the product page.

Frequently asked questions
What are good first accessories for a Toyota 4Runner?
There is no single right order. Most owners start with lighting (LED headlights, fog lights or ditch lights), rock sliders and skid plates if they wheel, a roof rack or rear plate system for gear, and a leveling kit or lift if they want bigger tires. Pick based on how you use the truck.
Do 5th gen 4Runner parts fit the 6th gen?
Generally no. The 6th gen (2025 and newer) has a different body and front end, and vendors list separate bumpers, sliders, skid plates, roof racks, lift kits and plate systems for it. Match the year range in the product title to your truck.
Do 2010–2013 and 2014–2024 4Runner parts interchange?
Some do and some do not. The front end changed for 2014, so headlights, front bumpers and grille pieces are often split by those years, while many sliders, skid plates and roof racks are listed for the full 2010–2024 run. Cali Raised LED notes that 2010–2013 trucks must remove the rock trim panel for its sliders to fit.
Will a lift kit work on a 4Runner with KDSS?
It depends on the kit. ReadyLIFT says its 3"F / 2"R SST Lift Kit will not work on TRD Pro, X-REAS or KDSS suspension, while other parts, such as C4 Fabrication's 5th gen full skid plates, list KDSS compatibility. Read the fitment notes, and plan on an alignment after any lift. Our leveling kit vs lift kit guide covers the tradeoffs.
Are aftermarket 4Runner accessories trim-specific?
Some are. DV8 says its Centric Series front bumper for the 2014–2024 4Runner is not compatible with the Limited trim, and Cali Raised LED says its Trail Edition sliders do not fit 5th gen Limited models. On the 6th gen, Goose Gear builds separate plate systems for hybrid and non-hybrid trucks.
How much weight can a 4Runner roof rack carry?
It depends on the rack and the truck. Prinsu rates its full non-drill rack for the 2010–2024 4Runner at 600 lb dynamic and 1,000 lb static. KC HiLiTES says the vehicle's own roof load limit governs for its Platform One rack. Keep rack plus cargo under your truck's roof limit while driving.
Are LED headlights street legal on a 4Runner?
Some are sold as compliant. Morimoto says the standard drivers in its XB Evo LED headlights for the 2014–2024 4Runner are DOT / FMVSS108 compliant, while its optional Supercharged driver is for off-road use only. Rules for auxiliary lights vary, so check your state.
