Ram 1500 Front Bumpers by Generation: Winch, Non-Winch and Guards
A Ram 1500 front bumper can mean a bull bar, a grille guard, a hidden winch tray or a full steel replacement. What fits depends first on your body style, then on trim, engine and driver-assist sensors.
Short answer: First confirm your body: 2009–2018 and the Ram 1500 Classic take 4th gen (DS) parts, and 2019-and-newer trucks take 5th gen (DT) parts. Then decide whether you need a winch. If you do, pick a winch-capable replacement bumper or a frame-mounted winch tray. If you do not, a non-winch plate bumper or a bull bar is lighter and simpler. Before you order, check for Rebel, EcoDiesel and adaptive cruise exclusions, which rule out many bumpers.
Winch, non-winch, hybrid or full replacement
Ram 1500 front-end protection falls into four groups. Names vary by brand, so read what a product actually replaces.
- Add-on bull bars and grille guards. These bolt on in front of the factory bumper, which stays in place. A bull bar covers the center and mounts lights. A grille guard adds uprights and wings around the grille and headlights.
- Hidden winch trays. A frame-mounted tray, like the Westin MAX Winch Tray, puts a winch behind the stock bumper. Westin rates the tray for medium frame 8,000 to 12,000 lb winches and says it was tested to a 16,500 lb straight-line pull.
- Low-profile and hybrid-style bumpers. These replace the factory bumper but stay tight to the body and follow the truck's lines. The ADD Black Label and Stealth Fighter bumpers fall here. Some brands use "hybrid" for a bumper that keeps part of the factory bumper, so check the product page.
- Full replacement bumpers. A full-width steel bumper replaces the factory bumper end to end, usually with a winch mount, recovery points and light mounts. The Westin Pro-Series, ARB Summit and DV8 Spec Series are examples.
Winch-capable bumpers have a mounting plate behind the face and a fairlead opening. A non-winch bumper is lighter, but it cannot take a winch later unless the maker sells a winch plate for it. Fishbone Offroad, for example, sells a separate Pike Winch Plate for its Pike front bumper. The winch itself is sold separately.
| Type | Factory bumper | Winch | Typical install notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Bull bar | Stays | No (Westin's MAX Tray Bull Bar mounts on the separate MAX winch tray) | Trim air dam or valance on many |
| Grille guard | Stays | Only the HDX Winch Mount version among those listed here | Factory tow hooks usually removed; trimming on many |
| Hidden winch tray | Stays | Yes, 8,000–12,000 lb class | Trim or remove air dam on trucks without tow hooks |
| Low-profile replacement | Replaced | Depends on model | Bolt-on on most listings |
| Full replacement | Replaced | Usually yes | Bolt-on, often freight shipping |
Ram 1500 front bumpers by generation
Ram sold two 1500 bodies side by side for several years. The 4th gen (DS) truck ran from 2009 to 2018, with a front-end refresh for 2013. When the 5th gen (DT) truck arrived for 2019, Ram kept building the DS truck as the Ram 1500 Classic, so a Classic takes 4th gen parts. Listings do not all agree on Classic years, so confirm on the product page.
2009–2018 Ram 1500 and Ram 1500 Classic (4th gen, DS)
For a winch, the ARB Summit Combination Bumper with Mounting Kit is a black steel, winch-compatible bumper sold with its mounting kit. ARB lists it for DS-body trucks from 2009 to 2021, not the Rebel, Warlock or any DT truck. The Fishbone Offroad front bumper (FB22397) is 1/8-inch steel with 1/4-inch reinforcements, 3/4-inch D-ring mounts and a 10 x 4.5-inch winch pattern, and Fishbone says it works with all factory sensors. Its title and description list 2013-and-newer Classic body trucks only, not 2009–2012 trucks or the DT body. Fender liner trimming is required. Confirm your year on the product page.
For a non-winch replacement, the Body Armor 4x4 Eco Series Front Bumper is 1/8-inch plate steel for 2013–2018 trucks, excluding the Rebel, and is listed as OE sensor compatible. The ADD Stealth Fighter Heritage bumper for 2013–2018 is plate steel with a center mount for a 40-inch radius light bar or up to 10 cube lights, plus clevis mounts for soft shackles.
On the add-on side, the Westin HDX Winch Mount Grille Guard puts a pre-drilled winch tray behind a full guard for most winches up to 12,000 lb of rated line pull. Its title says 2009–2023, but the description lists 2009–2018 plus the 2019–2020 Classic, excluding the Rebel and Warlock, so use the narrower range and confirm on the product page. Westin also sells HDX and Sportsman X grille guards and E-Series and Ultimate LED bull bars titled 2009–2024. Those listings do not say whether they fit the DS body, the DT body or both, so call us with your body style first.
2019 and newer Ram 1500 (5th gen, DT)
For a winch, the Westin Pro-Series Front Bumper, Full Width has a 10 gauge shell with a 4 gauge center section that Westin says takes most 8,000 to 12,000 lb winches, plus two shackle points. It excludes the Classic. The DV8 Offroad Spec Series Front Bumper is full-width 3.5mm and 5mm steel plate with a hidden winch mount and 1-inch thick D-ring mounts. DV8 says it does not fit diesel models, the Rebel, the 2019 Classic or trucks with factory fog lights, and it recommends a hawse fairlead rather than a roller. The Fishbone Offroad Pike bumper is 6 gauge steel that takes a winch with the matching Pike winch plate. Its title says 2019–2024, but its description and the winch plate say 2019–2023, so treat it as 2019–2023 and confirm on the product page.
For a non-winch bumper, the Body Armor 4x4 Ambush Series Front Bumper uses 3/16- and 1/4-inch cold roll steel with two welded D-ring mounts. It bolts on, is OE sensor compatible and does not fit the Rebel. The ADD Black Label Front Bumper is a low-profile plate steel bumper for 2019–2024 that keeps the factory parking sensors. The ADD Stealth Fighter Front Bumper for 2019–2023 has optional parking sensor cutouts and does not fit diesel models. The Westin Pro-Mod Front Bumper is modular 10 gauge steel with a mesh screen for airflow.
The DV8 Tube Front Bumper is a prerunner-style option, but DV8 says it does not fit the Classic, Rebel, TRX, RHO, EcoDiesel or trucks with crossmember lift kits. Westin offers the HDX Grille Guard, Sportsman and Sportsman X guards and E-Series bull bars for these trucks.
Rebel. Many bumpers above, including the DV8 and Body Armor 4x4 bumpers, exclude the Rebel, and others do not mention it, so confirm. ADD makes the Stealth Fighter Winch Front Bumper and a standard Rebel Stealth Fighter (listed with an optional winch mount) for the 2019–2023 Rebel, both with optional parking sensor cutouts. Neither fits the EcoDiesel.
2025 and newer. The polished stainless Westin HDX Grille Guard is listed for 2025–2026, the Westin MAX Winch Tray for 2019–2026, and DV8 asks 2025 owners to verify fitment with them.
TRX and RHO
The TRX (2021–2024) and RHO (2025 and newer) have wider bodies, so standard Ram 1500 bumpers do not fit. We carry Addictive Desert Designs bumpers for both, so check those listings directly.
Parking sensors, cameras and adaptive cruise
Many Ram 1500s have front parking sensors, a front camera and a grille-area sensor for forward collision warning and adaptive cruise. A bumper or guard can block those.
| Product | Parking sensors | Camera and adaptive cruise notes |
|---|---|---|
| DV8 Spec Series (2019+) | Retained | Front camera unobstructed; not compatible with ACC with Stop and Go |
| DV8 Tube bumper (2019+) | Retained | Optional push bar partially blocks the front camera; not compatible with ACC with Stop and Go |
| ADD Black Label (2019–2024) | Retained | Not stated |
| ADD Stealth Fighter (2019–2023) | Optional cutouts | Not stated |
| Body Armor 4x4 Ambush and Eco | OE sensor compatible | Not stated |
| Fishbone Offroad FB22397 (DS) | Works with all OE sensors | Not stated |
| Westin HDX Grille Guard (2019–2024) | Interferes | Interferes with forward collision warning and adaptive cruise |
| Westin Sportsman Grille Guard (2019–2024) | Interferes | Excludes trucks with adaptive cruise or forward collision laser sensors |
| Westin MAX Winch Tray (2019–2026) | Not stated | Interferes with grille-mounted forward collision sensors and adaptive cruise |
The Westin Tube-Mount Sensor Relocator moves the factory parking sensors onto the uprights of the HDX Grille Guard 57-3975 and requires drilling. The Westin Sportsman X Sensor Kit adds sensor panels so the factory parking sensors work with the Sportsman X grille guard. Both listings cover parking sensors only and do not mention adaptive cruise sensors. For the light mounts, see our LED pod lights guide and spot vs flood guide.
Weight, suspension and approach angle
None of these listings give a weight, so compare by construction. Thicker plate, a full-width shell and a winch cradle add weight, and the winch adds more. The Body Armor 4x4 Eco Series listing describes its 1/8-inch plate as avoiding the weight of a winch bumper, and Westin calls the Pro-Mod a lighter modular design.
- Front sag. A heavy bumper and winch can make the front sit lower. Our Ram 1500 lift kit guide and leveling kit vs lift kit guide cover ways to make up for it.
- Approach angle. Westin says the Pro-Mod raises ground clearance and approach angle, and Fishbone says its DS bumper adds approach angle and tire clearance.
What to check before you order
- Body style. DS (2009–2018 and Classic) or DT (2019 and newer).
- Trim. The Rebel, Warlock, TRX and RHO are excluded from most standard bumpers.
- Engine. Several bumpers and guards exclude the EcoDiesel or all diesel models.
- Tow hooks and plastic bumpers. Many Westin parts say factory tow hooks cannot be reused, and some exclude plastic bumpers.
- Year mismatches. If title and description years differ, use the narrower range and confirm on the product page.
- Local rules. Bumper height and light rules vary by state.
For the rest of the front end, see our Ram 1500 headlights guide and the Ram 1500 accessories guide.

Frequently asked questions
Will a 2019 or newer Ram 1500 front bumper fit my Ram 1500 Classic?
Generally no. The Classic uses the older 2009–2018 DS body, so it takes 4th gen bumpers. Several 5th gen bumpers, like the Westin Pro-Series and the DV8 Tube bumper, specifically exclude the Classic, and the DV8 Spec Series excludes the 2019 Classic. Look for listings that name the Classic, such as the Westin HDX Winch Mount Grille Guard, and confirm the Classic years on the product page.
Can I put a winch on a Ram 1500 without replacing the bumper?
Yes. A frame-mounted winch tray like the Westin MAX Winch Tray sits behind the factory bumper and takes medium frame 8,000 to 12,000 lb winches. Westin says trucks without factory tow hooks need the air dam trimmed or removed, and the 2019–2026 version will interfere with grille-mounted forward collision sensors and adaptive cruise if equipped.
Will an aftermarket front bumper keep my parking sensors?
Many do. The Body Armor 4x4 and DV8 Offroad bumpers, the Fishbone Offroad DS bumper, the ADD Black Label and the 2019–2023 ADD Stealth Fighter bumpers (with optional sensor cutouts) are listed as keeping the factory parking sensors. Westin's 2019–2024 HDX grille guards are listed as interfering with parking sensors, forward collision warning and adaptive cruise, and Westin sells a separate sensor relocator for one of them.
Does a Ram 1500 front bumper work with adaptive cruise control?
Check each listing. The DV8 Spec Series and Tube bumpers are not compatible with Adaptive Cruise Control with Stop and Go, and several Westin grille guards interfere with adaptive cruise. Confirm before you order.
Do Ram 1500 bumpers fit the Rebel?
Many do not. The Rebel has its own front end, and bumpers from Body Armor 4x4, DV8 Offroad, ARB and several Westin lines exclude it. ADD makes Stealth Fighter front bumpers for the 2019–2023 Rebel: a dedicated winch version and a standard version listed with an optional winch mount.
How much weight does a steel winch bumper add to a Ram 1500?
None of the Ram 1500 bumpers we carry list a weight on the product page, so we cannot give exact figures. In general, a full steel winch bumper plus a winch adds much more front-end weight than a non-winch plate bumper or a bull bar, and that weight can make the front of the truck sit lower.
Do I need to cut my truck to install a front bumper?
It depends on the part. The DV8 bumpers and the 2019–2023 ADD Stealth Fighter bumpers are listed as bolt-on with no cutting. The Fishbone Offroad bumper for the DS body lists fender liner trimming, and most Westin bull bar and grille guard listings call for trimming the air dam, valance or tow hook pockets.
