Shopping for Ram 1500 headlights gets confusing fast. The same model name covers trucks from 1994 to today, the 2019-2024 years were sold as two different trucks, and inside one generation the factory headlights can be halogen reflectors, halogen projectors, LED reflectors or LED projectors. Each of those changes which assembly, converter or bulb fits. This guide walks through the Ram 1500 by generation, explains how to tell your factory housing apart, and lists the LED headlight assemblies and bulbs NVMOS carries from AlphaRex, Morimoto, Form Lighting, ORACLE Lighting and Diode Dynamics.

Short answer: First confirm your generation (1994-2001, 2002-2008, 2009-2018 and the 2019-2024 Classic, or the 2019+ 5th gen DT), then check whether your factory headlights are halogen or LED and projector or reflector. Full assemblies from AlphaRex, Morimoto and Form Lighting replace the whole housing, so read each listing's trim exclusions and converter notes. Diode Dynamics LED bulbs are the simpler swap, but only for the specific Ram housings they list. Check your state headlight rules either way.

Start with your generation and your factory headlight

Two questions settle most Ram 1500 headlight orders: which body you have, and what the factory put behind the lens.

The trap most owners fall into is the 2019-2024 overlap. Ram launched the 5th gen (DT) Ram 1500 for 2019 and kept building the older 4th gen body alongside it as the Ram 1500 Classic through 2024. Both carry 2019-2024 model years, and their headlights are not interchangeable. If your truck has the older squared-off grille and headlight shape, shop the Classic or 2009-2018 listings. For more on the generations and what else fits, see our Ram 1500 accessories guide.

Ram 1500 headlights by generation

Years below come from the product listings. Where a title and description disagree, we use the narrower range, so confirm on the product page.

Generation Years Factory setup to check Headlight assemblies listed
2nd gen 1994-2001 Halogen AlphaRex LUXX-Series and NOVA-Series; ORACLE pre-assembled halo headlights
3rd gen 2002-2005 and 2006-2008 Halogen; the 2006 refresh uses a different headlight than 2002-2005 AlphaRex PRO, LUXX and NOVA for each range; Morimoto XB Hybrid (06-08)
4th gen 2009-2018 Halogen reflector (dual or quad) or, on 2013-2018 trims, factory projector AlphaRex PRO, LUXX, NOVA and MK II; Morimoto XB, XB Evo, XB Evo Hybrid, XRGB Evo; Form Lighting; ORACLE halo options
Ram 1500 Classic 2019-2024 Same body as 2009-2018 Morimoto Classic XB and Evo listings; Form Lighting Classic; AlphaRex 2009-2024 listings that name the Classic
5th gen DT 2019-2024 Halogen, LED reflector or LED projector, depending on trim AlphaRex LUXX, NOVA, PRO and MK II; Morimoto XB (19-24); Form Lighting (19-24)
5th gen DT refresh 2025-2026 LED reflector, or LED projector on Limited and RHO AlphaRex LUXX-Series and NOVA-Series (2025-2026)

1994-2001 (2nd gen)

AlphaRex lists its LUXX-Series and NOVA-Series LED headlights for the 1994-2001 Ram 1500 (and 1994-2002 Ram 2500/3500), styled after the 5th gen Ram 2500 with LED tubes that run a white or amber DRL and sequential amber turn signals. ORACLE Lighting sells pre-assembled halo headlights titled for 1994-2002 Ram 1500/2500/3500 with white halo rings sealed in at the factory. The Ram 1500 moved to a new body for 2002, so 2002 half-ton owners should confirm fitment on that page before ordering.

2002-2008 (3rd gen)

The 3rd gen splits at the 2006 refresh, and AlphaRex lists separate headlights for each half. The 2002-2005 PRO-Series runs H7 halogen bulbs for low and high beam in a projector housing with white LED DRL tubes, and AlphaRex notes it does not fit Dodge Ram Van models. AlphaRex also lists LUXX and NOVA versions for 2002-2005, and separate PRO, LUXX and NOVA listings for 2006-2008. Morimoto lists the XB Hybrid for 2006-2008 Dodge Ram trucks, with Bi-LED projectors and full LED DRLs, and says it is DOT approved and meets SAE, DOT and FMVSS108 with plug-and-play connectors and minimal modifications.

2009-2018 (4th gen) and the 2019-2024 Classic

This is the deepest part of the catalog. Morimoto lists the XB Evo for the 2009-2018 Ram 1500 with a heated lens to cut frost buildup and a signal swap key that sets the DRL to white or amber. For the Classic, Morimoto lists the XB Evo with dual Type 1 Ishida Bi-LED low beams and a Type D high-beam assist, and ships with harnesses, fuse taps, resistor mounts and mode selector keys. Morimoto says it meets DOT in standard configuration, with optional Supercharged drivers for off-road use.

AlphaRex titles several of its 4th gen headlights "Ram 1500 (2009-2024)," but the descriptions make clear the 2019-2024 years mean the Ram 1500 Classic, not the new DT body. Form Lighting uses the same lamp for 2009-2018 trucks and the Classic, with two dual-beam projectors per side and an IP67 rating, and lists it as not compatible with Big Horn trims.

2019 and newer (5th gen DT)

For the DT body, the AlphaRex LUXX-Series runs dual LED projectors with a T-shaped white DRL, and AlphaRex says it does not fit the Classic, Limited, Limited Longhorn or TRX. Form Lighting uses three bi-LED projectors per side and lists exclusions for Big Horn, Longhorn, Limited and TRX trims. Morimoto lists the XB LED headlights for the 2019-2024 Ram 1500 with a Kuria Optic Bi-LED projector and sequential DRL and turn signals. That Morimoto listing does not say whether the Classic is excluded or which factory headlight it expects, so confirm with us before ordering and use the Classic-titled Morimoto listings for a Classic. The 2025-2026 trucks get their own AlphaRex LUXX and NOVA listings, which AlphaRex says do not fit any 2019-2024 Ram 1500 or the TRX.

Projector vs reflector factory housings, and why it matters

A reflector headlight uses a shaped chrome bowl to bounce light from the bulb onto the road. A projector puts the bulb behind a small lens and a cutoff shield, which gives a sharper line between lit road and glare. You can usually tell by looking into the headlight: a round lens in front of the bulb means projector, an open chrome bowl means reflector.

On 2013-2018 trucks with factory projectors, AlphaRex lists a separate converter harness so its 4th gen PRO, LUXX and NOVA headlights plug in, while trucks with stock dual or quad headlights install without one. Morimoto notes that 2013-2014 trucks may need a reprogram for the factory projector to avoid error codes with its 2009-2014 XB headlights. On the DT, the split is between halogen, LED reflector and LED projector trucks. ORACLE Lighting sells two different 2019-2024 DRL upgrade kits, one for reflector LED headlights and one for LED projector headlights, and for 2025-2026 AlphaRex says stock LED reflector trucks install direct while Limited and RHO trucks with stock LED projectors need the converter version.

Full assemblies vs LED bulbs

A full assembly replaces the housing, lens, optics and DRL at once. A bulb swap keeps your factory housing and changes only the light source, so results are limited by that housing. For the general tradeoffs, read LED vs halogen headlights.

Diode Dynamics lists several bulbs by Ram application. The Low Beam LED Headlight Bulbs for 2013-2015 Ram 1500/2500/3500 Projector are 9006/9012 bulbs for projector trucks. The Low Beam LED Bulbs for Non-Projector Ram are H11/H8/H9 bulbs listed for non-projector Ram 1500/2500/3500 trucks from 2011-2024 and Dodge Ram non-projector trucks from 2009-2010. The High Beam LED Bulbs for Ram 1500/2500/3500 use the 9005/9011/H10 size. Each comes as a pair in SL2 or SL2 Pro output with anti-flicker modules included, per Diode Dynamics. Diode also lists its H13 SL2 size for the 2006-2012 Ram 1500 without naming the light position, so check your bulb. The SAE J575 test Diode cites is a durability test, not a headlight beam approval, so check your state rules on LED bulbs in housings built for halogen.

DOT, SAE and state headlight laws

Several listings carry compliance statements, and they are the vendors' claims. Morimoto says its 2019-2024 XB headlights meet SAE, DOT and FMVSS108, and its Classic XB headlights are listed as DOT approved. Form Lighting says its lamps meet SAE, DOT, FMVSS and CMVSS for on-road use in the US and Canada when installed and aimed properly. Not every listing makes a compliance statement.

Headlight rules are set state by state and enforcement varies, so treat any vendor statement as a starting point and check your own state before you drive on new lights. Color-changing lights deserve extra care. Morimoto states that the RGB mode on its XRGB Evo is not street legal in the USA or Canada, and the ORACLE ColorSHIFT DRL and Demon Eye kits are app-controlled RGB, so plan to run white or amber on the road. If you also run fog lights, our yellow vs white fog light guide covers color choices.

Install notes: converters, errors and aim

Most of these assemblies are plug-and-play at the factory connector, but "plug-and-play" can still mean a converter. AlphaRex sells the converter as a "With converter" version of some headlights or as a separate harness, such as the 2019-2020 harness for trucks with factory LED headlights. Form Lighting includes a DRL harness, two flicker adapters and two LED headlamp adapters with its 2019-2024 lamp, and says trucks with the Premium Lighting Group need the DRL turned off in the media screen settings for the low beams to work properly. Form puts the install at one to two hours with basic tools.

After any headlight install, check the aim before driving at night. Lead times vary by brand, so check current lead times before you plan the install weekend.

Frequently asked questions

Will 2019-2024 Ram 1500 headlights fit a Ram 1500 Classic?

Usually not, because the Classic keeps the 2009-2018 body and headlight shape. AlphaRex and Form Lighting both state that their 2019-2024 Ram 1500 headlights do not fit the Classic. The Morimoto Ram 1500 (19-24) XB listing does not say either way, so confirm before ordering, or shop the Morimoto listings that name the Classic in the title.

How do I tell if my Ram 1500 has projector or reflector headlights?

Look into the headlight with the truck off. A projector has a small round lens in front of the bulb, while a reflector has an open chrome bowl around the bulb. On 2019 and newer trucks, also note whether the factory headlights are halogen or LED, since that decides which converter or adapter version you need.

Do I need a converter harness for aftermarket Ram 1500 headlights?

It depends on the truck and the headlight. AlphaRex lists a converter for 2013-2018 Rams with factory projector headlights and for 2019-2024 trucks with factory LED headlights, while factory halogen trucks install without one. Form Lighting includes adapters in the box. Check the converter note on the specific product page.

Are LED headlight assemblies street legal on a Ram 1500?

Several listings carry compliance statements: Morimoto says its 2019-2024 XB headlights meet SAE, DOT and FMVSS108, and Form Lighting says its lamps meet SAE, DOT, FMVSS and CMVSS when installed and aimed properly. Headlight rules are set by each state, so check your local law, aim the lights after install, and keep any color-changing DRL modes off the road.

Can I just put LED bulbs in my factory halogen headlights?

Diode Dynamics lists plug-in LED bulbs for specific Ram 1500 housings, including 9006/9012 low beams for 2013-2015 projector trucks and H11/H8/H9 low beams for non-projector trucks. Whether an LED bulb in a housing built for halogen is legal varies by state, and beam pattern depends on the housing, so many owners choose a full assembly instead.

Will new headlights throw dash errors or flicker?

Morimoto says its 2019-2024 XB headlights plug into the Mopar multi-pin connector with no errors or flickering, and Form Lighting includes flicker adapters on its 2019-2024 lamp. Morimoto notes that 2013-2014 trucks may need a reprogram for the factory projector to avoid error codes with its 2009-2014 XB headlights.

Which Ram 1500 trims are excluded from aftermarket headlights?

Exclusions vary by product. AlphaRex lists its 2019-2024 LUXX-Series as not fitting the Classic, Limited, Limited Longhorn or TRX. Form Lighting lists its 2019-2024 lamp as not fitting Big Horn, Longhorn, Limited or TRX, and its 2009-2018 lamp as not fitting Big Horn trims. Always read the fitment notes before ordering.
