Ford Transit Van Accessories: Steps, Storage, Lighting and Upfit Parts
The 2015 and newer Ford Transit is one of the most common platforms for adventure van builds, and most of the useful upgrades fall into five areas: the roof, access (ladders and steps), the front end, the rear doors and the interior walls and floor. This guide goes through each one for the Transit, tells you what we carry that actually lists Transit fitment, and is upfront about where our Transit lineup is thin so you know when to call.
Short answer: For a 2015+ Transit, the strongest parts of our lineup are interior storage (Integral wall rails with Milwaukee Packout mounts, Canyon Adventure Vans cargo trays), water (S&B undercarriage and wheel well tanks), lighting (Morimoto A-pillar ditch light brackets) and steps (ROAMBUILT). We do not currently list a Transit-specific roof rack, ladder or bumper, so call us for those. Always check wheelbase, roof height and trim, because many Transit parts are sized to the 148 inch van.
Before you buy: know your Transit
The Transit comes in more configurations than most trucks, and parts often fit only some of them. Before you order anything, write down:
- Model year. This guide covers the 2015 and newer full-size Transit. The smaller Transit Connect is a different van with different parts.
- Wheelbase. 130 inch, 148 inch or 148 inch extended (EXT). Several parts below fit only the 148 inch van.
- Roof height. Low, medium or high roof matters for racks and interior wall parts.
- Trim and drivetrain. Some listings exclude the Transit Trail or passenger vans, and some exclude dually rear wheels.
- Engine. The 3.5L EcoBoost and the naturally aspirated 3.5L take different engine parts.

Roof racks for the Ford Transit
A roof rack carries solar panels, recovery boards, an awning or a deck you can stand on.
We do not currently list a complete Transit-specific roof rack. What we do carry is the DVA Mechanics DeckSpan Universal Roof Panel, sold as a set of two. DVA says each panel is 5mm formed aluminum, 34 x 19.5 inches, built to be stood on, with slots and L-Track cut-outs for tie-downs. It mounts to standard crossbars and 80/20-style extrusions, and DVA lists it for Sprinter, Transit and Promaster builds. If your Transit already has crossbars, DeckSpan turns them into a walkable deck. For tie-downs on the L-Track cut-outs, DVA's L-Track tie-down rings are a common add-on.
If you need the rack itself, call us. We can tell you what we are able to source for your roof height and wheelbase.
Ladders and side steps
A rear or side ladder gets you to the roof; side steps make getting into the cab and sliding door easier, especially on a lifted or 4x4 van. We do not currently list a Transit-specific ladder.
For steps, ROAMBUILT's Sprinter/Transit Short/Flat Side Steps list the 2015 and newer Ford Transit, excluding Transit Trail models, along with the Sprinter and Transit Ekko. Per ROAMBUILT, they are all-aluminum with a black textured powder coat and a raised edge lip for traction, mount to the pinch weld with included rivet nuts and hardware, and fit all wheelbases. They are sold individually and the same step fits either side, so order two for a pair. Browse more in steps and foot pegs.
Front bumpers and lighting
We do not currently list a Transit front or rear bumper. Where we are well covered is lighting.
Ditch lights
Morimoto makes A-pillar ditch light brackets listed for the 2013-2026 Ford Transit, all trims. Its BAF253 brackets are, per Morimoto, laser cut from 304 stainless steel, powder coated and install without modifications, with cable clips for wire routing. Pods and wiring are chosen separately:
- Morimoto BAF253 brackets only: if you already have pods. Morimoto lists 1Banger, 2Banger, 4Banger and BigBanger pods as compatible.
For help choosing a beam pattern, read our ditch lights guide: spot vs flood.
Fog lights
The ORACLE Lighting 4 inch LED fog lights are a direct-fit replacement with factory mounting and plug-and-play connectors. ORACLE lists the Ford Transit 2006 onward among its fitments. Confirm your fog housing is the 4 inch factory-style unit before you order.
Rear door storage
A box mounted to the inside of a rear door holds tools, hoses and recovery gear without using floor space.
- ROAMBUILT Trail Box: 24 x 15 x 40 inches, 5052 aluminum, about 50 pounds per ROAMBUILT, with one internal shelf. ROAMBUILT lists it for the Transit, Transit Ekko, Sprinter, ProMaster or any rear door application. Drawers and a second shelf are sold separately.
- Canyon Drawer System: a Canyon Adventure Vans slide-out drawer for the rear boxes you already run. CAV lists Owl Vans, Flatline Van Company and Backwoods boxes, and says it is also designed to suit ROAMBUILT boxes. CAV says fitment follows the box rather than the van, so it works in Transit builds with a supported box.
- CAV Rear Door Box Gear Bin: mounts on top of an Owl storage box for wood, muddy boots or dirty clothes, per CAV.
- CAV Rear Door Handle Extender: for vans with a box mounted on the rear passenger door that blocks the factory handle. CAV says to confirm clearance with your box setup first.
Interior storage: walls and floor
Integral wall rails and Packout mounts
If you carry tools, the Integral Rail Kit for the Transit is the most Transit-specific product we carry. Integral describes it as a three-piece aluminum rail that bolts to factory mounting holes on the driver's side wall using included plus nuts, brackets and an install tool, with no drilling. It fits the 2014+ Transit with the 148 inch wheelbase, all roof heights, and is not compatible with the extended-length van.
Once the rail is up, you add accessories:
- Stack Lock: a latch that grabs Milwaukee Packout side rails so a full stack locks to the wall. Integral says a 148 inch Transit fits up to three on the driver's side.
- Rail + Stack Lock bundle and the Rail + 3 Stack Lock bundle.
- Rail + Swivel Strap bundle (2 pack): retractable straps that mount anywhere on the rail.
For more on Packout setups, see our Milwaukee Packout setups guide.
Canyon Adventure Vans cargo trays and panels
Most Canyon Adventure Vans parts we list are made for the Sprinter or specific camper vans. The CAV pieces that make sense in a Transit are the universal ones:
- Cargo Tray System Pro, 28 x 19 inch slide: a low-profile slide-out tray in powder-coated aluminum that locks closed. CAV says it is universal and stands on its own legs, so it works in Sprinter, Transit and custom builds. Legs are separate: 16 inch legs. It also comes as a 48 x 22 inch slide.
- Canyon Universal MOLLE Panel: laser-cut aluminum, not tied to one van, with an optional MOLLE panel shelf that installs without tools.
- Magnetic Outdoor Utility Shelf: CAV says it mounts to any metal surface on the van in seconds.
See the full lineup in our Canyon Adventure Vans collection, and check each listing for the van it names.
Dash and cab
Tackform makes all-metal phone mounts for the 2020-2025 Transit, including the TRAXX Slim Track dash bracket with MagSafe mount. Tackform notes it is not compatible with the Transit Connect and the dash bracket installs by drilling.
Water tanks for the Transit
S&B makes several tanks that fit the Transit without eating into cargo space. S&B says its tanks are BPA-free, TEI listed and RVIA approved.
| Tank | Location | Fitment per S&B |
|---|---|---|
| 22 gallon | Driver side, under the van | 2015-2026 Transit 148 and 148 EXT; not Transit Trail, passenger vans or vans with the factory 31 gallon tank |
| 20 gallon | Passenger side, under the van | 2015-2026 Transit 148 and 148 EXT |
| 25 gallon | Spare tire location | 2015-2026 Transit 130, 148 and 148 EXT |
| 24 gallon | Wheel well, inside | Single-rear-wheel Sprinter and Transit; not dually |
| 35 gallon | Passenger wheel well, inside | Single-rear-wheel Sprinter and Transit; not dually |
Undercarriage tanks can conflict with aftermarket running boards, so check the install notes on each listing. For pumps, filters and plumbing, read our overland water systems guide.
Engine and drivability
Two smaller upgrades are worth knowing about. J&L makes oil separators (catch cans) for the 2015-2026 Transit 3.5L EcoBoost and the 2020-2026 Transit naturally aspirated 3.5L; buy the one for your engine. And the Pedal Commander for the 2015+ Transit is a plug-in throttle response controller that changes pedal mapping, not engine output, which helps a loaded van feel less sluggish from a stop.

Frequently asked questions
What accessories fit a 2015 and newer Ford Transit?
For the 2015+ Transit we carry interior wall rails and Packout mounts from Integral Truck, undercarriage and wheel well water tanks from S&B, A-pillar ditch light brackets from Morimoto, side steps and a rear door storage box from ROAMBUILT, dash phone mounts from Tackform, and modular cargo storage from Canyon Adventure Vans. Does Canyon Adventure Vans make parts for the Ford Transit?
Most Canyon Adventure Vans parts we list are built around the Sprinter and specific camper vans. The CAV pieces that work in a Transit are the universal ones: the Cargo Tray System Pro, which CAV says works in Transit builds because it stands on its own legs, the Canyon Drawer System, which fits supported rear storage boxes in Transit builds, and the universal MOLLE panel and magnetic accessories.
Do you sell a roof rack or ladder for the Ford Transit?
We do not currently list a Transit-specific roof rack or ladder. DVA Mechanics' DeckSpan roof panels mount to standard crossbars and 80/20-style extrusions and are listed for Transit builds. If you need a complete rack or ladder for your Transit, call us and we will tell you what we can source.
Will the Integral rail kit fit my Transit?
Integral lists its rail kit for the 2014+ Ford Transit van with the 148 inch wheelbase, mounted on the driver's side wall, all roof heights. It is not compatible with the extended-length Transit. It bolts to factory mounting holes with no drilling, and up to three Stack Locks fit on a 148 inch van.
Which water tanks fit a Ford Transit?
S&B lists 22 and 20 gallon undercarriage tanks for the 2015-2026 Transit 148 inch and 148 inch EXT, a 25 gallon spare tire replacement tank for the 2015-2026 Transit 130, 148 and 148 EXT, and wheel well tanks for single-rear-wheel Sprinter and Transit vans. Check the exclusions on each listing, such as the Transit Trail and factory 31 gallon tank.
Do the ROAMBUILT side steps fit the Transit Trail?
No. ROAMBUILT lists its short/flat side steps for the 2015 and newer Ford Transit excluding Transit Trail models. The steps are sold individually and fit either side, so order two for a pair.
