Heat is the main enemy of a lithium battery under the hood. When one gets too hot it shuts itself off to protect itself, and that means your fridge or lights lose power at a bad time. Genesis tested this with a Dakota Lithium 135Ah battery in its Omega dual battery system and a temperature probe between the two batteries near the bottom of the tray. They recorded 140 F in normal city driving and over 167 F after extended highway driving, which is the point where lithium batteries cut off discharge.
This sleeve is made by DEI (Design Engineering, Inc.) from a multi-layer elastomer laminate. With the sleeve on and the probe in the same spot, Genesis saw city driving barely above 90 F, a couple of hours of highway around 119 F, and all-day highway peaking near 129 F, a drop of 38 F or more. These are the vendor's own test numbers rather than a lab certification. The sleeve is flexible, is rated to withstand a 1,500 C flame for 30 minutes, and offers 6 kV DC dielectric strength for electrical insulation.
Fitment
Currently fits Group 24 and Group 25 sized batteries, so it is listed as universal. It pairs with the Genesis Offroad Omega Dual Battery System, which already has an adhesive heat shield on the bottom and sides of its tray.
Install notes
Drop your accessory battery into the sleeve before placing it in the tray.
