About Factor 55

Factor 55 is an engineering design firm in Boise, Idaho. Its staff came from aerospace, defense and semiconductor work and built recovery gear around the same discipline: products are designed in 3D CAD, optimized with finite element analysis, and destructive-tested on instrumented equipment before they go on sale.

The company is best known for winch line shackle mounts like the UltraHook, ProLink and FlatLink, and for what it calls Closed System Winching. Factor 55 lists the UltraHook as the industry's first winch hook with an integrated shackle pin mount, which it says allows the safer practice of closed system winching.

What we carry from Factor 55

We carry Factor 55 winch line shackle mounts including the UltraHook, ProLink, ProLink XXL, FlatLink and FlatLink XXL, plus fairleads, rope guards and replacement pins and snap rings.

For the rest of the kit there are soft shackles, extreme duty kinetic ropes and bridles, tow and tree saver straps, HitchLink receiver shackle mounts, the Rope Retention Pulley and Snatch Block Pro, and complete Owyhee, Sawtooth, Borah and Baja recovery kits. Browse it all in recovery gear.

How to choose

  • Size kinetic rope to vehicle weight. Factor 55 rates the 7/8" rope for 4,000–6,500 lb vehicles, 1" for 6,500–8,500 lb, and 1.5" for 9,000–20,000 lb.
  • Soft shackles follow the same logic: the Standard Duty 7/16" is rated for vehicles up to 7,500 lb, and the 1/2" for 7,500–12,000 lb.
  • Match the shackle mount to your winch line. ProLink and FlatLink families come in sizes for standard rope and XXL for heavier line; check the product page for rope diameter.
  • Recovery kits are the simple way in. The Sawtooth kits bundle shackles, straps, a tree saver, a HitchLink 2.0, the Rope Retention Pulley and a recovery bag.

Is Factor 55 gear made in the USA?

Much of it is. Factor 55 lists its straps, rope guards, fairleads, snap rings and hitch pins as made in the USA, and its vehicle recovery kits as built from all made-in-USA components.
