With the NP231-J transfer case in its standard shift pattern, low range is only available with the front axle engaged. This sector kit changes that.

A rear-wheel-drive low range is useful when you want gear reduction without driving the front axle, for example on slow, controlled work where front driveline wind-up or front axle load is something you would rather avoid.

The change is internal to the transfer case. The vendor states it does not require any external upgrades, so there are no new shifter, linkage or driveshaft parts to chase. It is still transfer case work, so expect to open the case.

This is a vehicle-specific part for one platform, not a universal item. Check the model and year range below against your Jeep, and ask us if your setup differs from what is described.

Fitment

Listed for 1997-2006 Jeep Wrangler TJ and TJ Unlimited models with the NP231-J transfer case.

Install notes

This is an internal modification and does not require any external upgrades.

Questions before you order?

Fitment questions are easier to settle before the box ships.
