This OVS military-style utility shovel collapses to 9.25 inches and opens to 22.75 inches, so it fits in a door pocket or recovery bag but still digs out a buried tire.

The spade is #50 boron steel, which OVS uses because it is lighter and stronger than ordinary carbon steel, and it has a rolled edge on the back and sides for stiffness. One edge is serrated for cutting roots and brush. The shaft is 7075 aluminum, the handle is glass-filled reinforced nylon with a locking collar, and everything is finished in a two-stage black powder coat.
