Paired with a soft shackle, it handles redirects and double-line pulls without carrying a steel snatch block.

The ring is machined from T6 6061 aircraft-grade aluminum, so it will not rust or corrode. Wrap a soft shackle through it, run your line over it, and it acts like a pulley for a redirect or a double-line pull. OVS says rings like this are stronger and much lighter than traditional snatch blocks, and they carry less stored energy if something lets go.
